TikTok Star Ben McIntosh takes you behind the scenes of support work

Posted on 03/12/2021
Ben’s interest in disability support started when his little sister, Grace, was born with Down Syndrome. His career in the sector naturally came about when a friend of Grace’s needed a lift to basketball once a week  – and the rest is history.

Based in Queensland, Ben showcases his work as a support worker and the adventures he gets up to with his clients, Grace and their friend Zac on his social media.  He has more than 7.6 million likes for his videos and over 350,000 followers on his TikTok account.

Apprenticeship Careers Australia is collaborating with Ben as part of the More Jobs More Care program, a NSW Government initiative, to spread awareness about the industry and get more young people in Australia involved in such a fulfilling and rewarding career: “I just really want to encourage more people to join the field and do what I do. I play mini golf, I go bowling… go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and I get to have all these fun while getting paid to provide an essential service to better someone’s life.”

This year’s IDPwD theme is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-Covid 19 world”.  The IPDwD is celebrated internationally every year on December 3 and it aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
